How Is It Spelled?:

Or Mispelled

My latest research uncovered another generation:  My great great great Grand Parents. 

The problem was spelling.  John Vallely was misspelled in numerous documents that obscured the family tree.  His father Hugh was listed as Hugh Valily. 

John is listed as Vallaley, Vallelley, Vallely.

I'm convinced that people just could not spell and that confuses a lot of genealogical records.

Claire Vallely emailed in 2015:

I just wanted to let you know that here in Northern Ireland we spell our name Vallelly and I didn't see it listed as a variant! Those with that spelling seem to be from one family that divided into Protestant And Catholic Vallellys due to a marriage between a Protestant Male Vallelly and a Catholic female who brought up her children in her own faith!!
